Bios:

Johan Holmén is a Postdoctoral researcher at Chalmers University of Technology. His research focuses on methodological and evaluative approaches to navigate sustainability transformations and transitions in practice. Main interests relate to sustainability and purposeful action, systems change and systemic practice, transformative social learning and Education for Sustainable Development. Since 2015, Johan has been part of developing as well as doing education and research in Challenge Lab – a ‘whole of university’ approach to complex societal challenges where students are provided space and support to lead in such contexts. Challenge Lab has received the UNEP/GUPES Green Gown Award for its high levels of student engagement.

Gavin McCrory is a PhD candidate at Chalmers University of Technology, based in Gothenburg, Sweden. In his research he facilitates, educates in, and explore labs in real-world contexts, with a curiosity in how they relate to sustainability transformations. He does this by combining perspectives from socio-technical transitions and sustainability science, as well as by drawing upon theories of learning and systems thinking. His methodological approach links review insights with case-based inquiry in Challenge Lab, a transdisciplinary learning space in Chalmers University.
