Profile

Dr Chantal Hemmi is an Associate Professor at Center for Language Education and Research (CLER) at Sophia University. In the past ten years, she has been involved in developing and reviewing English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and English Medium Instruction (EMI) courses together with the English Curriculum Committee at CLER. She has also been cultivating Inservice Training and Development activities at CLER with a team of professionals in
teacher development. Her first research interest is in investigating students’ understandings of critical thinking in CLIL and EMI courses. She is also studying the process of scaffolding of critical and creative thinking on a young learner CLIL course conducted in Autumn 2021. Her recent publication is an edited volume of a compilation of research and cases on CLIL in nine different countries from around the world, including Japan. Hemmi, C., & Banegas, D. L.
